What is forward tipping dumper?
A forward tipping dumper is commonly used on construction sites. It is used to transport large loads of materials across a site, usually on rough, undulating terrain. Its ability to handle a mixture of terrain and carry large loads makes it a flexible piece of equipment.

What does the Tuppco training course include?
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
- Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used
- Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
- Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
- Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturers and legislative requirements
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for forward tipping dumper use
- Prepare the forward tipping dumper for use and operate safely and efficiently
- Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
- Attach and set trailers, ready for operation
- Environmental considerations
- Storage and transport of implements and attachments
- Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures

Theory Assessment:
- 25 multiple choice questions
- 4 marks per question
- 80% pass mark required

Practical Assessment Criteria
- Pre use and operational checks
- Drive through chicane forwards and backwards
- Position Forward tipping dumper for loading operation x 4
- Drive over uneven and sloping ground
- Demonstrate hill starts
- Discharge the load over an edge or in excavation x 2
- Discharge the load to form a stockpile x 2
- Reverse 30 metres in a straight line
Pass mark is less than 25 penalty points and no mandatory disqualifications
Time allowed is 1 hour

Objective Of Course
The aim of the Lantra Forward Tipping Dumper (DMP01) course is to ensure learners can operate forward tipping dumpers safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards, reducing accidents and improving productivity on-site.
Key Course Objectives:
- Understand the components, controls, and capabilities of forward tipping dumpers
- Learn correct PPE requirements, safety responsibilities, and industry regulations
- Carry out and record pre-start checks, inspections, and routine maintenance
- Operate the dumper safely under a range of conditions, including:
- Open sites and confined spaces
- Soft, uneven, or unstable ground
- Slopes, inclines, and haul routes
- Load, transport, and tip materials safely and efficiently
- Work effectively with excavators, loading shovels, and site personnel
- Identify and manage hazards such as overturning, pedestrians, blind spots, and load stability
- Improve operational skill, machine control, and site awareness
- Build confidence to operate the dumper in demanding environments
By the end of the course, learners will be fully competent and confident in using a forward tipping dumper safely on any worksite.
